Norwalk High School's Jazz Ensemble classes provide for "big band" and combo instruction for students who are chosen by audition. Although the classes are selective, they are open to students in all four grade levels. These ensembles feature jazz, rock, and blues improvization, and popular rhythm concepts. Reading and performing of jazz and rock is stressed. Rehearsals are scheduled outside of school time.

Public appearances are made at festivals, concerts, competitions, and assembly programs. Wind and percussion players must be members of the band program. In addition to local performances, our Jazz groups have for many years participated at the Berkelee College of Music High School Jazz Festival in Boston where they have achieved excellent results.
